So its been an absolute age since i last posted – sorry the world has been moving pretty quickly!
I have seen a few really useful articles about the recent up dates to rdSAP10 – which is the first update in a long time and incudes significant updates on the methodology which should make the assessmewnt process more reliable.
It includes:
- Enhanced Data Collection:Assessors will need to collect more detailed information during on-site visits, including measuring all windows, identifying different types of ventilation, and noting wall and roof constructions.
- New Technologies:RdSAP 10 includes new technologies like PV battery storage, diverters, and small-scale hydro generation, reflecting the growing adoption of renewable energy systems in homes.
- Improved Accuracy:The software now allows for specifying two alternative wall types per building part, more detailed insulation options, and the inclusion of actual insulation thicknesses and thermal conductivity values where available.
- Refined Recommendations:RdSAP 10 aims to provide clearer recommendations for improving energy efficiency, including more frequent recommendations for heat pumps in reasonably well-insulated properties.
- New Age Band:A new age band has been added for properties built from 2023 onwards to reflect changes in Building Regulations and allow for more accurate data inferences.
- Expanded Ventilation Options:Assessors will need to identify and record various ventilation types, including extract fans, passive stack vents, and different types of flues and chimneys.
- Isle of Man Inclusion:The Isle of Man has been added as a region, allowing for RdSAP assessments to be conducted there.
Impact on Homeowners and Tenants:
- More Accurate EPCs:The increased detail in data collection and the inclusion of new technologies will result in more accurate and reliable Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs).
- Potentially Longer Assessment Times:Due to the increased data requirements, assessors may spend more time on-site, potentially leading to slightly longer processing times for EPCs.
- Better Understanding of Energy Performance:The more detailed information on a property’s energy features will help homeowners and tenants better understand their home’s energy performance and identify areas for improvement.
- More Targeted Recommendations:The refined recommendations will help homeowners and tenants make more informed decisions about energy-saving upgrades.
Impact on Assessors:
- Increased Training:Assessors will need to be trained on the new data collection requirements and software updates.
- Adaptation to New Features:Assessors will need to familiarize themselves with the new inputs and features in the RdSAP 10 software.
- Potentially Increased Time per Assessment:The more detailed data collection will likely require more time to complete each assessment.
- More Accurate Assessments:RdSAP 10 will enable assessors to provide more accurate and reliable assessments of properties’ energy performance.
RdSAP 10 represents a significant step forward in the methodology for assessing the energy performance of UK dwellings, leading to more accurate EPCs and more targeted recommendations for energy efficiency improvements.
